HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 77-084i 2 3 4 6 6 7 81 9' io 11 12 3.3 14 15 is 17 is 1s zo 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 so 31 32 RESOLUTION NO. �'�r- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL of THE CITv. - OF TUSTIN, CALII-ORtiIA, URGING WATER CONSERVA- TION MEASURES. - WHEREAS, California suffered a severe drought in 19769 requiring the California State 'rater Project and the Federal Central Valley Project to draw heavily on long --term storage to meet their water commitments; and WHEREAS, rainfall in the current water year has been substantially below normal, particularly in Northern California and the Central Valley, and, in the absence of major storms within the next few months, 1977 will be another year of seri- ous drought which will cause water shortages in many communi.tie } and farming areas of the State; and WHEREAS , the Governor has asked for the cooperation and active participation of all public officials and people of the f State of California in conserving of hater supplies during this drought; and WHEREAS, while Southern California, through programs developed over many years by its water agencies, has a presently adequate water supply, an active water conservation program is essential; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY .OF - TUS T I N hereby resolves that it hereby urges that every householder, farmer and business within Southern California exercise the greatest care in the use of water so as to protect this valu- able resource and avoid waste; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that every Southern California water supplier is urged to alert its customers to the necessity and means of saving water and to carefully monitor vvater uses to prevent waste; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all of -the residents and businesses of Tustin are urged to consider the following con- servation measures: 1. Retrofitting existing bathroom showerheads with low -flow showerheads or water flow restrictors. 2. Retrofitting bathroom toilet tanks with plastic bottles or rubber or plastic "dams". 3. washing cars with a bucket instead of a hose. 4. Cleaning sidewalks with brooms and not using hoses and water* 5. Installing timers on sprinkler systems. 0 70 Incorporating moisture sensing devices into auto- -~ matic sprinkling systems to determine whether sprinkling is needed. Shortening shower time. 12. Insulating h.ot water pipes in order to shorten the wait for hot water. 13. Restaurants serving water only on request. � 14. Farmers planting low -water -using crops. .15. Installation of drip irrigation systems., 16. Replacing flood irrigation with sprinkler irrigation.
