AUTHORIZE STAFF TO SOLICIT BIDS FOR REPLACEMENT RIDING
LAWNMOWER
SUMMARY
Authorize City staff to advertise and solicit bids for the replacement of one riding lawnmower for
use by the Public Works Department/Field Services Landscape Division.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the .City Council authorize City staff to advertise and solicit bids for a new
riding lawnmower.
FISCAL IMPACT
The replacement of the. proposed riding lawnmower is budgeted in the FY 00-01 under the Public
Works Landscape Division operating budget account number 01-404-9845. The estimated
replacement cost of the mower is $14,000.
BACKGROUND '
The Public Works Department / Field Services Landscape Division is scheduled to replace a 10-
year old riding lawnmower in FY 00-01. The current riding lawnmower has a 52-inch cutting deck,
and is used daily in the mowing of the City Parks. It has reached the end of .its useful life and
constantly needs repair. The new riding lawnmower will have a 72-inch cutting deck, which will
allow for greater turf mowing capacity and will also provide the Landscape staff with the ability to
provide additional services. The purchase of turf renovation attachments will allow staff to
perform assignments which in the past required the rental of costly equipment. The old
lawnmower will be declared surplus and sold at public auction.
