HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 83-26RESOLUTION NO · 83-26 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA OPPOSING THE IMPOSITION OF SANCTIONS BY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY UPON THE SOUTH COAST AIR BASIN WHEREAS, the City of Tustin is located within the South Coast Air Basin; and WHEREAS, the South Coast Air Basin stands to lose federal funds for transportation improvements, sewage treatment facilities, air quality planning and highway repair and construction if monetary sanctions are imposed by the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; and WHEREAS, the South Coast Air Basin, already hard hit by unemployment, stands to lose more jobs if a construction ban on new or modified major stationary sources is imposed by the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; and WHEREAS, the imposition of such sanctions would be counterproductive and could lead to worsened air quality and water qua.'lity; and WHEREAS, the imposition of such sanctions is not warranted because of the efforts of the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the Southern California Association of Governments who submitted a jointly prepare~d air quality management plan revision which met all Clean Air Act and Environmental Protection Agency policy requirements and which has been praised as one of the best in the country; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Tustin opposes the imposition of sanctions by the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency upon the South coast Air Basin and urges the Administrator to approve the air quality management plan revision submitted in 1982 so that progress toward cleaning up the air in .the South Coast Air Basin can continue forthwith. 17 PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Tustin, California, this 21st day of March, 1983.
