HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 77-25 RESOLUTION NO. 77-25 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, TO THE ORANGE COUNTY DIVISION OF THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES, URGING Tt[E ADOPTION OF LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD AUTOMATICALLY PROVIDE FOR TIlE ANNEXATION OF UNINCORPORATED COUNTY ISLANDS INTO THE CITIES SURROUNDING THEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CORRECT SPHERE OF INFLUENCE. WI{EREAS, a number of Orange County cities and many cities throughout the State of California have located'within their' corporate limits certain unincorporated county islands; and WtlEREAS, the rendering.of services to those unincorpor- ated islands is expensive to all county taxpayers; and WHEREAS, services of unincorporated areas could be more effectively rendered to those islands if they were a part of the incorporated city; and WHEREAS, the pressure for increased efficiency among' local governments and the curbing of property tax increases make all necessary economies and efficiency steps mandatory; and WtIEREAS, residents of the unincorporated islands receive many benefits provided to them by the city without the appro- priate participation in the tax burden; and .- WHEREAS, the residents of the city are not .only paying their city taxes to support these services, but are in effect paying county taxes as well; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tustin does hereby request the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities to encourage and support legislation that would automatically annex an unincorporated island into the city within whose sphere of influence the island is located; and FURTttER, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities actively encourage the League of California Cities to adopt a similar resolution and support this action as a part of its legislative program, and also encourage all of its State Assemblymen and Senators from their respective districts to support this resolution in the name of economy an~ efficient local government.
