A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OFTHE CITY
OF TUSTIN REQUESTING THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO
INCLUDE WITHIN THE FEDERAL AID URBAN TWO YEAR
(F.Y. 1976-77, 1977-78) PROGRAM THE DEVELOPMENT
OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS ALONG NEWPORT AVENUE.
WHEREAS,· the City of Tustin desires to install new and
modify ex'isting traffic signals and appurtenances at
various intersections along Newport Avenue from Sycamore
Avenue to Old Irvine Boulevard to provide for an inter-
connected system; a~d'
WHEREAS, Newport Avenue is important to transportation
· planning in the County of Orange and of general County
interest; and
WHEREAS, the Federal-Aid }tighway Act of 1976 provides
Federal Funds for expenditure on the Federal-Aid Urban
(FAU) System of Highways and non highway public mass transit
projects; and
WHEREAS, the FAU System consists of certain eligible
State Highways, ..ounty roads and city streets located
within urban and urbanized areas of the State; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Transportation
.has specified that each urban and urbanized area must
develop an acceptable process for reviewing projects and
recommending priorities and that the appropriate regional
planning agency (SCAG) must concur wi th the process; and
WHEREAS, a FAU process has been approved for the County
of Orange, in accordance with the above requirements,_ which
will establish a FAU Two Year Program (FY 1976-77 and
1977'78) .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Tustin hereby requests that the installation of
new and modifi·cation of existing traffic signals and
.appurtenances at various intersections along Newport Avenue
from Sycamore Avenue to Old Irvine Boulevard to provide for
an interconnected system be included in the Orange County
FAU ·Two Year Program; said improvements to be. in accordance
with the attached preliminary project statement;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, by this Resolution, the
City of Tustin will comp%y with the basic policies and
procedures of the Orange County EAU Program; and its share
of the cost of improvements which is presently estimated
to be $78,000.00 will be available for the Fiscal Year
1977-78.
