HUSTON, CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: SAN DIEGO GAS & ELECTRIC'S SUNRISE POWERLINK TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECT RECOMMENDATION Pleasure of the Council. BACKGROUND Mayor Amante asked that this item be agendized in order for the City Council to discuss what position it might want to take concerning SDGE's Sunrise Powerlink Transmission Line Project. RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF SAN DIEGO GAS & ELECTRIC'S SUNRISE POWERLINK TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECT WHEREAS, the Sunrise Powerlink is a proposed electric transmission line that would deliver reliable power and help reduce overall energy costs for San Diego Gas & Electric customers; and WHEREAS, the Sunrise Powerlink will provide access to clean, renewable sources of energy located in the Imperial Valley, including solar, wind and geothermal power generation; and WHEREAS, the delivery of reliable power to homes and businesses is critical to Southern California's economic competitiveness and quality of life; and WHEREAS, the construction of new energy infrastructure projects, including the Sunrise Powerlink, are needed in Southern California to meet the projected demands for power in the region; and WHEREAS, when completed the Sunrise Powerlink will provide enough energy to serve more than 650,000 homes and will save SDG&E ratepayers more than $100 million per year by reducing the region's dependence on older, less efficient and more costly local power plants; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin, California, as follows: 1. That the City Council supports the Sunrise Powerlink and the delivery of reliable and renewable energy to the region; 2. That the City of the City of Tustin strongly urges the California Public Utilities Commission to expeditiously approve the construction of this vital energy transmission project.
