RESOLUTION NO. 76-58
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUSTIN, .CALIFORNIA JOINT POSITION AGREEMENT ON
THE FUTURE ROLE OF THE ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT
It is generally understood and acknowledged that any future
expansion of commercial airline activity at the Orange County Airport would
adversely affect the cities which encompass the Orange County Airport.by-
Increasing traffic congestion on already overcrowded roads,
highways and freeways.

Increasing the noise impact area through the addition of new
air 'traffic' patterns.'
Increasing air pollution from commercial .jets and surface
traffic utilizing the Orange County Airport.

Increasing safety problems (the Orange County Airport is the
second busiest airport in the'nation). Any futu're increase
of commercial airline activity will seriously affect the
safety oF the-cities sur.rounding the Orange County Airport..

Increasing the commercial airline operations at the Orange
£ounty Airport will be at the expense of general aviation.
Taking these factors into consideration, the cities surrounding the
Orange County Airport (Costa Mesa, Irvine, Tustin and Newport Beach) have
developed the following statement which constitutes the joint position per-
taining to the role of the Orange County Airport as it relates to commercial
air transportation- ' ....

The Orange County Airport shall continue operating, as a
short-haul metroport, and shal! emphasize and encourage flights
to Los Angeles International Airport and Ontario International
Airport.
The County shall agree not to lease space at the 'Orange County
Airport to any new airlines.
The Orange County Board of Supervisors syhall take whatever action
is deemed necessary to redUce noise be low its current level as is
required by the State's noise standards.
The County of Orange shall designate Ontario :nternational
.
Airport as the regional airport which can facilitate Orange
County's future demands for medium and long-haul air
transportation.. ·
The County of Orange shall devel, op a rapid transit system to
Ontario International Airport. .
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of th.e Tustin"City Council
held on the 21st of June, 1976.
