RESOLUTION NO. 75-42
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TUSTIN IN OPPOSITION OF PROPOSITION NO. 15
THE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS INITIATIVE

WHEREAS, the availability of primary energy sources, i's of
increasing concern in the State of. California;
WHEREAS, natural gas as a primary energy is rapidly phasing
ou[, coal as a primary energy is not usable in much of California, oil
as a primary energy source is diminishable and increasingly price
prohibitive; ..

WHEREAS,.non-depleting energy sources (e.g., solar, wind, and
geothermal) are not feasible in the r'emainder of the 20th century for
p. rimary power generation;
WHEREAS, nuclear generating plants in the United States have
proven to be safe;
WHEREAS, Proposition No. 15, the Nuclear Power Plants
Initiative, would, if passed, effectively halt and' phaSe out nuclear
power generation faci.lities in Californ'ia;
WHEREAS, informed scientists, economi.sts, and other concerned
citizens'are convinced that nuclear energy is our most viable energy hope
for the next 30 years;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Tustin, Ca!ifornia is opposed to Proposition No. !5 and all of
its ramifications a0d wishes to convey this position to all interested
parties.

We would also urge government, utilities,, industry, and other
bodies directly involved in the generation of power to vigorously research .-
and bring to reality other means of generation and to continue-to
encourage energy conservation by all consumers.
PASSED. AND ADOPTED at a Special Meeting of the Tustin City
Council held on May 10, 1976.
