JORDAN, CHIEF OF POLICE SUBJECT: POLICE DEPARTMENT AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE ONE KUSTOM SIGNALS, INC. SMART 850 MOBILE RADAR SPEED TRAILER SUMMARY Purchase one (1) Kustom Signals, Inc. Smart 850 Mobile Radar Speed Trailer for use by the Tustin Police Department. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended the City Council approve the purchase of: 1. One (1) Smart 850 Mobile Radar Speed Trailer to Kustom Signals, Inc. Lenexa, KS, in the amount of $7,083.56. FISCAL IMPACT Adequate funds are currently available in account #84-801-9730 (Vehicle Equipment Lease and Replacement Fund) in the amount of $7,083.56. BACKGROUND The proposed replacement/purchase of one (1) Mobile Radar Speed Trailer with specified equipment for the Police Department is scheduled in the current 2008/09 Vehicle Lease Fund Program. This item will replace the old mobile radar speed trailer system which was decommissioned a year and a half ago due to continuous repair issues that were priced beyond the worth of the trailer. The Mobile Radar Speed Trailer will help the Police Department educate the community and target high speed traffic areas. This system will provide software to break down different statistical readings that will aid in the traffic enforcement within the city. Smart 850 Mobile Radar Speed Trailer at a cost of $7,083.56. Kustom Signals, Inc. is nationally known for many of their law enforcement products and quick responding customer service. One large benefit to purchase with this vendor is that they have a local repair service here in Orange County. (Refer to Appendix "B", City of Tustin Informal Bid Process.) SCOTT M.
