A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING
COUNCIL POLICY NO. 50-3.
The City Council of the City of Tustin, California:
does hereby resolve as .follows: ~

That Council Policy No. 50-3, relative to Park
Naming, a copy of which is attached hereto marked Exhibit A
and incorporated herein by this reference, is hereby "approved
and adopted and incorporated in the Council Policy Manual.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of Tustin, held on the 20th
day of December , 1971.

PURPOSE
To establish a policy which outlines ~he acceptable classification
of park names and the method by which names shall be given to
City parks.
BACKGROUND
_ . _
The City has found that' with the development of public parks, '
a need exists for consistency in park naming so as to provide'
for park names that will be an asset to the park to be named,
and to the community.
POLICY
It is the desire of the City of Tustin to provide parks and
park names which will be assets to the community. It is the
policy of the City of Tustin that the Parks and Recreation
Commission shall have the responsibility for recommending
park names to the City Council for approval, based upon the
criteria below. The City Council shall adopt all park names
by resolution.
1. Classification of acceptable City park names is as follows
(including non-English names):
A. Local Person's Name - Donors, War Heroes, Elected or
Appointed Officials, Historic Group or Person, other
(deceased) .
B. Local Places and Feature Names - Neighborhood, Street
Location, Horticulture, Natural Phenomena, other.
C. Local Organizations- Civic, Fraternal, Veterans, other.
D. Special Theme Names - Frontier, Space, Fantasy, etc.

2. Citizen participation in park naming is encouraged and
the Parks and Recreation Commission is responsible for
soliciting and' evaluating park names from the citizenry.
3. A park identification sign shall be installed at each public
park, and shall include the park name as well as the words
"city of Tustin".
4.. It is the desire of the City of Tustin that park names
assigned by the City Council be permanent, however, upon
strong justification, a park name can be changed by .a
majority vote of the City Council.
