HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 70-21 RESOLUTION NO. 70-21 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF THE U.S. MARINE CORPS AIR STATION (II) AND ITS ANNEXATION TO THE CITY OF TUSTIN· WHEREAS, the proposed MCAS (Il) and Irvine Annexation No. 64 is a logical extension of the incorporated boundaries of the City of Tustin; and WHEREAS, the City of Tustin presently abuts the area on two sides for a lineal distance of over two and three-quarter miles; and WHEREAS, the majority of the .area of the proposed annexation is also included in the Tustin Area General .Plan, which was adopted by both the Board of Supervisors and th~'. Tustin City Council in December, 1966; and WHEREAS, as stated in the Tustin Area General Plan relative to the "military land use: "It is expected that this use of the land will cont. inue for many years, therefore, the plan., gen- erally reflects the base in its present location. Those portions of this plan which propose other than military use for land which is owned by the Federal Government and is under the Department o'f Defense jurisdiction will not be implemented until such land has been declared excess., or otherwise made avail- able by the Federal. Government." WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Tustin to preserve the utility of the Marine Corps Air Station (Il) ,there- by assisting the Marine Corps in its mission of protecting and defending the people of the United States; and WHEREAS, .the City.of Tustin is in the most fa'vorable position to preserve the military, mission by exercising land use .controls over the private lands northeast of the Air Station which are included in the annexation filed by the City of Tustin, but not included in the annexation boundary filed by any other .. city; and WHEREAS, the area is within the "Sphere of Influence" of the City of Tustin and therefore roads, shopping areas, .resi- dential and indus[rial development, military land use, and other tangible features' should be within the single governmental jurisdiction of Tustin, i.n order to avoid the continual juris- dictional disputes and lack of single authority between a variety of governmental entities; NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby resolved that the City of Tustin recognizes the importance of the mission of' the Marine Corp Air Station (H) and the importance of the preservation, continu- ation, and extension of all possible support to the Marine Corps to assist it in being able to fully carry out its duties; and. Further, the City 'Council resolves that the City of Tustin be, and it hereby is, fully committed is reasonably required now and in the future, to assist the Marine Corps to fully carry out its activities, with the least possible encroachment or interference from. activities which may be incom- patible with the military effort. 0 " .
