TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: DAVID WILSON, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES
SUBJECT: SENIOR CENTER BUS DONATED TO CITY BY TUSTIN AREA SENIOR
CENTER FUND, INC.
SUMMARY:
The Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. purchased a 2008 EI Dorado National
Aerotech 16 passenger bus and donated the vehicle to the City of Tustin to utilize for
the senior citizens transportation program at the Tustin Area Senior Center.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council accept the donation of the 16 -passenger bus from
the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No cost associated with bus purchase. The only fiscal impact would be the cost of
regular maintenance.
BACKGROUND:
The senior citizen transportation program has been conducted by the Parks and
Recreation Department since 1999. In the past, the Tustin Area Senior Center received
retired vehicles from the OCTA through a grant program for use by our transportation
program. The vehicles provided by the OCTA were high mileage buses with brief life
spans and substantial operating and maintenance costs.
The Senior Center Fund raised $61,500 for the purchase of the bus from private
donations, fundraising activities and the TASC Gift Shop. The donation of the new bus
to the City of Tustin will assist the Tustin Area Senior Center Transportation Program
with conducting a safe and reliable program to Tustin area senior citizens for many
years.
The Transportation Program provides free door-to-door transportation to Tustin
residents age 55 and older. Days of operation are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays from 8am to 4pm. Pre -registration is required with the Senior Center. The
program provides trips to medical appointments, grocery shopping and the Senior
Center. It is wheelchair accessible and participants may be accompanied by an
assistant. Reservatic
