HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 1044 RESOLUTION NO. 1044 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, URGING PASSAGE OF ASSEMBLY BILL NO. 9 TO CHANGE FORMULA FOR DIS- TRIBUTION OF GAS TAX HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION FUNDS WHEREAS the majority of the population of the State of California resides in the thirteen (13) southerly counties; and WHEREAS the majority of California vehicles are in the same southerly counties; and / WHEREAS in recent yoars allocations of gas tax funds to cities and counties have increased, and administrative and engineer- ing requirements and restrictions imposed by the State have been modified; and WHEREAS, further modifications are desirable and reason- able SO as to authorize cities and counties to utilize gas tax funds. on non-select system streets on a fifty-fifty (50-50) matching,.fundi basis ~rom non-gas tax sources and authorizing use of gas tax funds - to provide street lighting on those streets qualifying as select system streets , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Tustin urges passage of Assembly Bill No. 9, to change the Mayo-Breed for- the Mayo-Breed for- mula to provide that sixty percent (60%) of the State gas tax State' gas tax funds i " be returned to the thirteen (13) southerly counties, rather than presently-existing fifty-five percent (55%): RESOLVED FURTHER that legislation be adopted to permit cities to utilize gas tax funds on non-select streets, pro- , vided they match State gas tax funds on a fifty-fifty (50-50), basis: from non-gas tax sources; RESOLVED FURTHER that the gas tax funds be made avail- able for street lighting on streets qualifying as select system streets. RESOLVED FURTHER that the Orange County Division of the California League of Cities be urged to adopt a resolution in sup .- port of the foregoing.
