HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 0981RESOLUTION NO. 981 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING THE STAND OF DR. S.I. HAYAKAWA IN HIS ADMINISTRATION OF SAN FRANCISCO STATE COLLEGE AND URGING ALL THOSE IN ACADEMIC AUTHORITY TO GIVE FULL SUPPORT TO THE ACTING PRESIDENT OF SAN FRANCISCO STATE COLLEGE. WHEREAS, organized militant groups have disrupted and continue to disrupt the normal educational functions of parts of the State College system of the State of' California; and WHEREAS, such actions have concentrated upon the campus of' San Francisco State College causing violence and riot resulting in injury to persons and property and the closing of that campus, to - the majority of students seeking higher education; and WHEREAS, Acting President of the college, Dr. S.. I. Hayakawa, since his appointment has taken a firm stand against such militants in seeking to re-establish the principle of preserving the college as a functioning educational institution for those students· seeking a college education; and · Wf{EREAS, Acting President of the college, Dr. S. I. Hayakawa,. has been dedicated to his assignment in spite of personal threats and the organized effort's of militants both from on-campus groups and from outsiders desiring to take over the State College system; and WHEREAS, those in the state of California in academic authority should be urged to give full and unequivocal backing to Dr. Hayakawa for his sincere and dedicated stand. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin that it commend and it does hereby commend and congratulate Dr. S. I. Hayakawa for his firm stand and his equitable approach to the problems confronting San Francisco State College to the end that the normal educational processes be permitted to contin without interruption or harassment. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all those in the State in academic authority be urged and they are hereby urged and requested to give full support and backing to Dr. Hayakawa in his efforts to re-establish a normal functioning of San Francisco State College for the purpose for which it was established. AND BE IT FURT}tER RESOLVED. that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to Governor Ronald Reagan, the Board of Trustees of the State Colleges and to Dr. S. I. Hayakawa.
