HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 0978 RESOLUTON NO. 978 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN URGING CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ON THE SUBJECT OF NARCOTICS TRAFFIC BETWEEN MEXICO AND CALIFORNIA . WHEREAS, the distribution and use of narcotics and dangerous drugs by minors has become an extremely serious problem in California .· and WHEREAS, there is evidence to indicate that the California- .... Mexico border should be closed to unchaperoned minors; .,~ WHEREAS, the situation is of particular concern to those .cities · in the southern part of the state which are in close proximity to the .. Mexico border, such as the City of Tustin; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tustin expresses its support of the Resolution adopted by the League of. California Cities by urging the.United States Congress to conduct hearings in Southern California to develop measures to remedy the problem of traffic in narcotics and dangerous drugs between Mexico and California; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Congress in conducting such hearings is urged to specifically investigate the traffic in narcotics by minors and to consider the establishment of specific California-Mexico border controls in oooperation with the Mexican Government as would assist in the elminination of this source of the problem; BE IT FIIRTHER REgOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to send copies of this Resolution to the' League of California Cities, all cities in Orange County, the Board of Supervisors of Orange County, to United States Se'nator George Murphy and Senator Alan Cranston, to Congressmen James B. Utt and Richard Hannah, to State Senators John Bo· Schmitz and James Whetmore, to Assemblyman Robert Badham and to Governor Ronald Reagan. ADOPTED this 20th day of January, 1969 ATTEST: o . · .
