HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 8214 10 11 12 15 14 15 .16 18 19 2O ~4 ~5 £9 31 RESOLUTION NO. 821 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN PROTESTING THE REQUIREMENT BY THE POSTMASTER GENERAL OF RURAL-TYPE MAILBOXES FOR CURB DELIVERY IN ALL NEW SUBDIVISIONS WHEREAS, great care has been taken in the Master Planning of the City of Tustin to create beautiful streets, free of unnecessary obstructions, and WHEREAS, additional expense has been incurred by homeowners, developers, and the City in order to bring about innovations of design for beautification of public property, and WHEREAS, the new requirement by the Postmaster General ~or rural-type mailboxes in,."all new subdivisions would cause installati¢ · of unsightly, upright mailboxes at intervals of approximately every 60' along residential streets, and WHEREAS, after due study and consideration, the City COuncil of the City of Tustin also finds as follows: (1) Beautification efforts currently underway to eliminate unsightly utility poles, signs, et al. will be hampered by these unnecessary additions to the "street. scene." (2) Current trend toward contingency of sidewalk with curb will cause conflict of mail boxes with parking of vehicles, opening and closing of automobile doors, etc. (3) Placement of mail boxes adjacent to curbs wil1 obstruct pedestrian traffic using the sidewalks. (4) Street delivery boxes will not afford adequate security and protection for mall. (5) The street rights-of-way are the property of the local agencies; i.e. Cities, Counties, therefore, this regulation is a direct infringement on the use of said property by the owner-agencies. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin that request is hereby made tO the Post Office Department, senators and Congressmen of California, for appropriate action to rescind the aforementioned Directives issued by. the Postmaster (1) ' .5 10 11 12 13 15 .16 IV 18 2O 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 29 3O 31 32 General regarding requirements for curb delivery of mail in new subdivisions.
