SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO FILL VACANCY IN BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE
TUSTIN AREA SENIOR CENTER FUND, INC.
SUMMARY:
City Council action is required to appoint Mr. Don Ropele to the Tustin Area Senior
Center Fund, Inc. Pursuant to its Articles of Incorporation and its by-laws, the Tustin
Area Senior Center Fund, Inc., consists of five (5) Directors. Due to the resignation of
Mary Hill from the Board of Directors a vacancy currently exists. As per the by-laws, any
vacancy may be filled by appointment of the City Council.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council appoint Mr. Don Ropele, an active community
volunteer, to the Board of Directors of the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc.
BACKGROUND:
The Tustin Area Senior Center Fund, Inc. was established in 1985 to raise money for
the construction of the Tustin Area Senior Center. When the Center opened in 1989,
the Articles of Incorporation were amended to include acceptance of gifts and donations
to aid in capital acquisitions and operation of the Center. Some of the projects financed
by the Fund include the reception desk located in the lobby, computer software to
produce the monthly newsletter, viewing windows in the lounge, classroom window
coverings, the redesign of classroom three into astate-of-the-art Computer Learning
Center and the renovation of the kitchen.
According to the bylaws, the Board of Directors consists of one member from the City
Council, one member from the Senior Advisory Board, the City Manager and two
Members-at-Large. The last annual meeting of the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund,
Inc. Board of Directors was held April 1, 2008. The current members include Jim
Palmer, Councilmember, William A. Huston, City Manager; and Marisa Charette, Board
Member. Due to the resignation of Board Member, Mary Hill, there is now a vacancy for
a Member-at-Large. A recommendation for Don Ropele was discussed and all current
Board Directors were in favor of his appointment as aMember-at-Large.
Director of Parks and Recreation Services, David Wilson, and Parks and Recreation
Supervisor, Marilyn Esposito, will be in attendance at the January 20, Council Meeting
to answer any questions.
