SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR THE CAMINO REAL PARK PLAYGROUND INSTALLATION (PROJECT NO. 2059) SUMMARY: The bid opening for the Camino Real Park Playground Installation project was held on January 27, 2009. City Council is requested to award the bid to Kleen Play Playground Construction, in the total amount of $56,651.00 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that: The City Council award the contract to Kleen Play Playground Construction of Chino, California in the amount of $56,651.00 subject to the approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and final execution. FISCAL IMPACT: The installation of new playground equipment at Camino Real Park is funded through a combination of State of California Bond Act grant funds and Park Development funds. The total for this project, including the cost of equipment will be $121,840,44. While the entire amount for this project was included in the 2008/2009 Capital Improvement Program, 70% ($85,288) is projected to be funded through State grant funds. BACKGROUND: The scope of work includes the renovation of the playground at Camino Real Park located at 13602 Parkcenter Lane. The work to be completed consists of demolition and removal of existing play equipment and sand, installation of new playground equipment, installation of synthetic wood chip surfacing and the creation of two ADA concrete ramps. The playground equipment being installed was chosen by the Community Services Commission and purchased from BCI Burke Company, LLC through the California Multiple Award Schedules (CMAS) program. SUMMARY: Sealed bids were opened on January 27, 2009; two bids were received. A third company, Community Playgrounds, Inc. pulled a project specifications manual and attended the mandatory pre-bid walk through, but did not submit a bid. The two bids were as follows: Contractor Base Bid Kleen Play Playgrounds Construction $56,651.00 Evergreen Environment, Inc. $69,472.40 Community Playgrounds, Inc.. Non-Responsive References check of the contractor, review of the bid documents, and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates and the City Attorney will review the contract.
