HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 568RESOLUTION NO. 568 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, INVITING THE OWNERS OF THE ANGEL' BASEBALL CLUB TO LOCATE THEIR AMERICAN LEAGUE BASEBALL, FRANCHISE IN ORANGE COUNTY The City Council of the City of Tustin does resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the Angels' Basebase Club is presently under contract only until 1964 and their President, Hobert Reynolds, has indicated that they may not wish to renew their present obligations, and WHEREAS, President Reynolds has indicated they may want their own field in 1965, and have evidenced an interest in the location of the franchise in Orange County, and WHEREAS, surveys have shown a large number of Orange County residents now support the Angels at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, and WHEREAS, the present population of Orange County is in excess of three-quarter's of a million people, with a 1980 estimated population of two and one-half million people, and WHEREAS, the central, location of Orange County midway between three major metropolitan areas with immediate freeway access from each, and WHEREAS, professional baseball clubs and con- cessions represent the free competitive enterprise system and are self-supporting, and WHEREAS, the identification of Orange County with a major sports endeavor such as the Angels Major League Club would benefit all communities therein. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Tustin, California, recommend and en- courage the serious consideration by the owners of 'the Angels Baseball Club to select Orange County as their next home. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all cities and their City Councils, service organizations and others work together toward the achievement of this goal. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Tustin at a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 5th day of September 1961.
