2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA,
3 REQUIRING ITS GENERAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION TO BE CONSOLIDATED WITH
4 THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION HELD
IN NOVEMBER OF EVEN-NUMBERED YEARS,
5 PURSUANT TO SECTION 36503.5 OF THE
GOVERNMENT CODE.

WHEREAS, by Resolution 87-11 a public hearing was
8 called for February 2, 1987, at 7:00 o'clock p.m., in the
Tustin City Council Chambers, to obtain public input in the
9 matter of consolidating Tustin's general municipal election
with the statewide general election held in November of
10 even-numbered years; and
11 WHEREAS, such hearing has been duly held and all
persons interested given the opportunity to be heard.

NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Tustin,
13 California, does hereby ordain as follows:
14 I. The general municipal election of the City of
Tustin shall be consolidated with the statewide general
15 election held in November of even-numbered years; and
16 II. This ordinance shall be effective upon the
approval of the Board of Supervisors of the County of
17 Orange; and
18 III. As a result of the adoption of .this ordinance, 'no
term of office shall be increased or decreased by more than
19 twelve months; and
20 IV. The consolidated election shall be governed by
Elections Code Section 23300, et seq.; and

V. The County Clerk is directe~ to conduct the
22 municipal election, to canvass the returns of the general
municipal election, and conduct the election in all ~es-pects
23 as if there were only one election, using only one form of
ballot, in accordance with Section 22003 of the Elections
24 Code; and
25 VI. Recognizing that additional costs will be incurred
by the County by reason of this consolidation, the County
26 shall be reimbursed for additional costs; and
27 VII. Those City officers whose terms of office would
have, prior to the adoption of this ordinance, expired on
28 the Tuesday succeeding the second Tuesday in April of an
1 even-numbered year, shall instead continue in their offices
until no later than the fourth Tuesday after the day of the
2 general municipal election, and until the successors are
elected and qualified; and

VIII. The period to file as a candidate for the general
4 election shall be the same as the nomination period to file
as a candidate for the statewide general election; and

IX. Within thirty days after this ordinance becomes
6 effective upon approval of the Board of Supervisors, the
City Clerk shall cause a notice to be mailed to all regis-
7 tered voters informing the voters of the change in the
election date, and that elected City officeholders' terms in
8 office will be changed; and
9 X. The municipal election following adoption of this
ordinance and each municipal election thereafter shall be
10 consolidated with the statewide general election held in
November of even-numbered years.

12 Coun=cil of the City of Tustin, California, held on the
17th day of February , 1987.
