HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION ACCEPTANCE OF PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS AND AUTHORIZATION TO FILE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE MAJOR BUILDING MAINTENANCE PROJECT- CIP NO. 1032 (EXTERIOR PAINTING OF CIVIC CENTER) SUMMARY The project provided for the exterior painting of the Civic Center buildings and associated structures. Additional work included the exterior painting of the City's Maintenance Facility on Service Road and the installation of a new office wall in the City's Human Resources Department. The project has been completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer and is now ready for City Council acceptance. 0 RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 02-05 accepting the Major Building Maintenance Project (CIP No. 1032) and authorizing the recordation of the Notice of Completion, and direct the City Clerk to: . Release the Labor and Materials Bond not sooner than thirty-five (35) days after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion; and . Release the Faithful Performance Bond not sooner than one year after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion. Assuming no claims or stop notices are filed, it is further recommended that 35 days after the date of recordation of the Notice of Completion, the City Council authorize payment of the final retention in the amount of $5,364.00 to Royal Construction Company. This amount together with previous payments of $90,126.00 represents 100% of the final contract cost. FISCAL IMPACT The final cost of construction for this project was $95,490.00 Program (CIP) budget provided sufficient funds for this project. The City's Capital Improvement Acceptance of Public Improvements and Authorization to File Notice of Completion for the Major Building Maintenance Project- CIP No. 1032 (Exterior Painting of Civic Center) January 22, 2002 Page 2 DISCUSSION The project provided for the exterior painting of the City Hall/Police Building, Community Center building, and parking structure at the Civic Center. Miscellaneous structures at the Civic Center were also painted, such as trash enclosures, parking lot light poles and the wishing well area. Due to the very low bid and the high quality of work by the contractor, additional work, which included the exterior painting of the City's Maintenance Facility and the installation of a new office wall in the Human Resources Department, was completed. Kasdan Engineering Services Manager TDS: JAD: ccg' NOC Major Building Maint & Reso #02-05.doc Attachments: Resolution No. 02-05 Location Exhibit RESOLUTION NO. 02-05 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE WORKS OF IMPROVEMENT AND AUTHORIZING RECORDATION OF THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOP, THE MAJOR BUILDING MAINTENANCE (CIP N©. 1032) WHEREAS, Royal Construction Company having a cOntract with the City of Tustin to construct the hereinafter described public work and improvement; and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has duly certified to the construction and completion of said public improvements hereinafter mentioned in a manner satisfactory to the City Council of the City of Tustin; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that said contractor has completed said public improvements hereinafter more particularly described in accordance with the provisions of the contract documents and the Notice of Completion, and acceptance of said public work and improvement should be filed and payment of the balance due said contract authorized in accordance with the contract documents; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin that said public work and improvement is found to be complete, and the same is hereby accepted. Said public work and improvement is more particularly described as follows: Major Building Maintenance - CIP No. 1032 (Exterior Painting of Civic Center) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Engineer of the City of Tustin is hereby authorized to execute and file a Notice of Completion for the acceptance of said public work and improvement described herein as required by law.
