HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION AUTHORIZE STAFF TO SOLICIT BIDS FOR REPLACEMENT SIX-WHEEL BROOM STREET SWEEPER SUMMARY Authorize City staff to advertise and solicit bids for the replacement of one six-wheel broom street sweeper for use by the Public Works Department/Field Services Division. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council, authorize City staff to advertise and solicit bids for one new six-wheel broom street sweeper. FISCAL IMPACT The replacement of the proposed six-wheel broom street sweeper is budgeted in Fiscal Year 2001/02 under the special equipment replacement fund, account number 84-801-9740. The total amount accumulated in the equipment lease fund forthis replacement is $178,915. BACKGROUND The Public Works Department/Field Services Division is scheduled to replace a 12-year old street sweeper during this fiscal year. The old street sweeper was originally scheduled to be replaced in the 1997/98 Fiscal Year. In Fiscal Year 1998/99, upon an evaluation of the sweeper condition by Field Services staff it was determined that an expenditure of $23,000 from the lease fund to refurbish the rear engine and the conveyor belt system would extend the life of the equipment by 2-3 years. The refurbished sweeper is now at the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. The estimated replacement cost of the new broom street sweeper is $175,000. The new street sweeper will be in compliance with South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for the new PM-10 requirements. The old street sweeper will be declared surplus and sold at public auction. Tim D. Serlet Director of Public Works/City Engineer Wisam Altowaiji Field Services Manager TDS:WA:ccg.
