CELEBRATING TUSTIN'S 75 YEARS OF CITYHOOD
SUMMARY:
A "Celebration" program developed by an ad hoc committee established to identify
programs and publication materials to celebrate Tustin's 75th anniversary of
incorporation.
RECOMMENDATION:
Request the City Council adopt the "Celebration" program listed below for the City of
Tustin to celebrate their 75th anniversary of incorporation.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total additional cost to promote the activities as listed above is $17,454. Some
revenue can be expected from the sale of memorabilia and commemorative wear, but
not expected to exceed $1,500 in revenue to offset the $17,454 in expenditures.
DISCUSSION:
An ad hoc committee, comprised of a number of community members and City staff,
was formed to identify programs, marketing material and a theme to celebrate the City's
75th Anniversary of Incorporation. The official incorporation date was September 21,
1927.
Programs listed below identify a suggested theme, memorabilia, commemorative wear,
logo, street banners, promotional material, website information, public relations
information, City Council activities and programs.
THEME:
The suggested theme is:
· Tustin's 75th Diamond Jubilee - History, Heritage and Promise
MEMORABILIA:
The development of a logo lapel pin signifying the 75th Anniversary. This pin
would be sold and distributed at special events, at City facilities and offered as a
memento to dignitaries.

COMMEMORATIVE WEAR:
It is suggested that t-shirts and golf polo shirts with the appropriate logo
signifying Tustin's 75"' Anniversary be distributed and sold at certain special
events and City facilities.

Decorative banners to hang along Main Street and El Camino, similar to our
patriotic promotional banners. The banners would have our 75th Anniversary

entertainment.

The Summer Concert Series would be named and themed after our 75th

STREETSCAPE GRAND OPENING:
The reopening of the streetscape improvements on El Camino near Main Street
in late September, celebrating the City's 75t~ Anniversary and tying in to the
historical theme.

ART DISPLAY:
A one-month art display at the Tustin Senior Center in the month of July, with a
pictorial history of Tustin's 75 years of progress and growth.

TUSTIN TILLER DAYS:
The theme of the three-day celebration would be the Diamond Jubilee - History,
Heritage and Promise. The Parade would have a special, historical significance
tied to the theme. Special activities would include floats being ridden by those
residents over 75 years of age, with special recognition given to those born on
that day, and the awards announcements being tied to the theme.
Official closing of the 75th Anniversary at the Tustin Tiller Days on Sunday,
designating September 21,2027 as the official Centennial of Tustin.
