SHINGLETON, ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: ACCEPT THE TUSTIN LIBRARY EXPANSION PROJECT (CIP 1045) AND FILE A NOTICE OF COMPLETION SUMMARY Construction of the Tustin Library Project (CIP No. 1045) has been completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer and is now ready for City Council acceptance. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that City Council take the following actions: 1. Adopt Resolution No. 10-21 accepting the construction of the Tustin Library Project (CIP No. 1045); and 2. Authorize the City Engineer to execute and file the Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's Office. FISCAL IMPACT The final construction contract cost for the Tustin Library Project is $15,117,626. This includes the original contract amount and authorized change orders of 3.2 % of the contract cost, which is well below the standard rate of 10%. To date, project construction, design, land acquisition, and construction management have been completed. There are some additional items to be completed prior to closing out the project including, but not limited to, additional benches and furniture, umbrellas and stands, security cameras, and some minor miscellaneous items. However, it is anticipated that the final project cost will be below the authorized budget even with change orders. Once these items have been completed a detailed project accounting will be provided for the City Council's information. DISCUSSION Construction of the Tustin Library Project (CIP No. 1045) was completed on April 6, 2010. Stack, P.E. r of Public Works/City Engineer Attachments: Resolution No. 10-21 Location Exhibit RESOLUTION NO. 10-21 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING THE WORKS OF IMPROVEMENT AND AUTHORIZING THE RECORDATION OF THE NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE TUSTIN LIBRARY PROJECT (CIP NO. 1045) WHEREAS, gkkworks Construction Services, having a contract with the City of Tustin to construct the hereinafter described public works and improvement; and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has duly certified to the construction of said public improvement hereinafter mentioned in a manner satisfactory to the City Council of the City of Tustin; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that said contractor has completed said public improvement hereinafter more particularly described in accordance with the provisions of the contract documents and the Notice of Completion, and acceptance of said public works and improvement should be filed and payment of the balance due said contract authorized in accordance with the contract documents; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Tustin that said public works and improvement is found to be complete, and the same is hereby accepted. Said public works and improvement is more particularly described as follows: Construction of the Tustin Library Project (CIP No. 1045) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Engineer of the City of Tustin is hereby authorized to execute and file a Notice of Completion for the acceptance of said public works and improvement described herein as required by law.
