SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE TUSTIN SENIOR CENTER
WOOD FLOOR CIP No. 1032
SUMMARY
Bids for the Tustin Senior Center Wood Floor Project CIP No. 1032 have been received and a
construction contract is ready to be awarded to the lowest responsive/responsible bidder.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council award the construction contract for the Tustin Senior
Center Wood Floor CIP No. 1032 to the lowest responsive/responsible bidder, McWil Sports
Surfaces, Inc., in the amount of $49,750 and authorize the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute the
contract documents on behalf of the City.
FISCAL IMPACT
The project is funded by CDBG-R funds in this Fiscal Year 2009-10 Capital Improvement Program
Budget.
DISCUSSION
The Tustin Area Senior Center is used for numerous City events and meetings throughout the
year. As a result, the existing wood floor is heavily used for a variety of functions. The floor was
originally installed in 1989 when the facility was constructed. It has provided 20 years of
outstanding service but has declined in integrity that requires its replacement.
On May 19, 2009, the City Council authorized staff to solicit bids for this project. Formal bids were
publicly opened April 6, 2010, by the City Clerk. Four (4) bids were received and are summarized
below by order of least dollar amount:
• McWil Sports Surfaces, Inc. -Gardena ......................................... $49,750
• Korston Construction, LP -Anaheim ............................................. $57,000
• Kerr Floors, Inc. -Huntington Beach ............................................. $59,678
• Geary Floors, Inc. - EI Cajon ........................................................ $63,290
• Champion Hardwood Floors, Inc. -Canyon Lake ......................... $69,500
Staff has reviewed the references and the State Contractor's License for McWil Sports Surfaces,
Inc. and has determined that they are appropriate for the subject project.
