STACK, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE TUSTIN SENIOR CENTER WOOD FLOOR CIP No. 1032 SUMMARY Bids for the Tustin Senior Center Wood Floor Project CIP No. 1032 have been received and a construction contract is ready to be awarded to the lowest responsive/responsible bidder. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council award the construction contract for the Tustin Senior Center Wood Floor CIP No. 1032 to the lowest responsive/responsible bidder, McWil Sports Surfaces, Inc., in the amount of $49,750 and authorize the Mayor and the City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City. FISCAL IMPACT The project is funded by CDBG-R funds in this Fiscal Year 2009-10 Capital Improvement Program Budget. DISCUSSION The Tustin Area Senior Center is used for numerous City events and meetings throughout the year. As a result, the existing wood floor is heavily used for a variety of functions. The floor was originally installed in 1989 when the facility was constructed. It has provided 20 years of outstanding service but has declined in integrity that requires its replacement. On May 19, 2009, the City Council authorized staff to solicit bids for this project. Formal bids were publicly opened April 6, 2010, by the City Clerk. Four (4) bids were received and are summarized below by order of least dollar amount: • McWil Sports Surfaces, Inc. -Gardena ......................................... $49,750 • Korston Construction, LP -Anaheim ............................................. $57,000 • Kerr Floors, Inc. -Huntington Beach ............................................. $59,678 • Geary Floors, Inc. - EI Cajon ........................................................ $63,290 • Champion Hardwood Floors, Inc. -Canyon Lake ......................... $69,500 Staff has reviewed the references and the State Contractor's License for McWil Sports Surfaces, Inc. and has determined that they are appropriate for the subject project.
