HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: DAVID WILSON, DIRECTOR, PARKS & RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR THE TUSTIN FAMILY & YOUTH CENTER PLAYGROUND REPLACEMENT SUMMARY: The bid opening for the Tustin Family & Youth Center Playground Replacement project was held on April 28, 2010. City Council is requested to award the bid to Creative Contractors in the total amount of $82,678.99 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that: City Council award the contract to Creative Contractors of Rancho Santa Margarita, California in the amount of $82,678.99 subject to the approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and final execution. FISCAL IMPACT: The installation of new playground equipment at the Tustin Family & Youth Center is funded through CDBG funds. The total for this project, including the cost of equipment and installation was budgeted at $88,000. BACKGROUND: The scope of work includes the replacement of the playground at the Tustin Family & Youth Center located at 14722 Newport Avenue. The work to be completed consists of demolition and removal of existing play equipment and sand, and installation of new playground equipment and rubber, pour-in-place surfacing. The playground equipment being installed is from Playworld/Dave Bang Associates. SUMMARY: Sealed bids were opened on Aprit 28, 2010; six bids were received. The six bids were as follows: Contractor Base Bid Creative Contractors $ 82,678.99 Hansen Associates $ 84,000.00 Micon Construction, Inc $ 97,837.00 Fleming Environmental $104,708.00 Atom Engineering, Construction $109,359.00 Malibu-Pacific Tennis Courts $122,900.00 References check of the contractor, review of the bid documents, and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. In addition, the proposed playground equipment was evaluated to be equivalent or better than the design in the project plans and specifications. The Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates and the City Attorney will review the contr ct. onstruction is scheduled to begin in June and the project should b completed by he d of July.
