HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: DAVID A. WILSON, DIRECTOR, PARKS & RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR THE LAUREL GLEN PARK AND MAGNOLIA TREE PARK PLAYGROUND REPLACEMENTS (C.I.P. NO. 20064) SUMMARY: The bid opening for the Laure replacements project was held on bid to Fleming Environmental Inc. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that: 1. City Council award the contract to Fleming Environmental of Fullerton, California in the amount of $260,300.00 subject to the approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and final execution. FISCAL IMPACT: The replacement of the playgrounds at Laurel Glen and Magnolia Tree parks is funded with Park Development funds as part of the 2010/2011 Capital Improvement Program. The total for this project, including the cost of equipment and installation was budgeted for $296,000. BACKGROUND: The scope of work includes the replacement of the playgrounds at both Laurel Glen Park (13301 Myford Road) and Magnolia Tree Park (2274 Fig Tree Drive). The work to be completed consists of demolition and removal of existing play equipment and sand, and installation of new playground equipment, wood chip surfacing, and ADA concrete entry ramps at both parks. City Council is requested to award the in the total amount of $260,300.00 As per project specifications, the playground equipment being installed at both parks is from Playworld Systems/Dave Bang Associates. SUMMARY: Sealed bids were opened on July 7, 2010. The six bids were as follows: Contractor Base Bid Fleming Environmental, Inc. $260,300 Creative Contractors $265,825 Ortco, Inc. $279,998 Micon Construction, Inc. $282,755 Malibu Pacific Tennis Courts, Inc. $299,000 Yakar $346,525 References check of the contractor, review of the bid documents, and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates and the City Attorney will review the contract. Construction is scheduled to begin in S~p~tember and th project should be completed by the end of October.
