We understand that there are many requests for federal funding and that funding resources are limited. However, we believe that the regional significance of the JFTB is important enough to justify consideration. Agencies throughout Southern California have banded together to request $17 million for the reconstruction of the runway because the JFTB is the only military facility between Santa Barbara and San Diego Counties that is able to accommodate heavy aircraft, such as the C-17 and Air Force One. Clearly, there is strategic military and civilian value in maintaining the JFTB as a fully functioning base in the Southern California region. In addition to its ongoing military mission, the Base serves as California's Southern Regional Office of Emergency Services. Accordingly, the JFTB and its airfield will serve as the focus through which manpower and aid flows in the event of a regional emergency. The City of Tustin sincerely believes that the entire Southern California region benefits immensely from a fully functioning airfield in northwest Orange County. While we are well aware of your efforts to obtain the funding, we offer our assistance in helping you with that task. If there is anything we can do to be of support, please feel free to contact me at (714) 573-3010. Sincerely, Jerry Amante Mayor
