MEETING DATE: FEBRUARY 1, 2011
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS
VIA: DAVID C. BIGGS, CITY MANAGER
FROM: DAVID A. WILSON, DIRECTOR, PARKS AND RECREATION
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO
ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR PARK PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION AT CENTENNIAL PARK (CIP No.
20065)
SUMMARY:
This project includes the purchase and installation of playground equipment and ADA
required playground surfacing and a ramp.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 11-06, approving
specifications for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment at
Centennial Park (CIP No. 20065), and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Renovation of playground equipment at Centennial Park is included in the Capital
Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2010-2011. Adequate funds are available in the
Park Development Fund 131 for the purchase and installation of new playground
equipment at Centennial Park. Total estimated cost for the project is $76,000.
BACKGROUND:
The playground equipment at Centennial Park (14722 Devonshire Avenue) is over 15
years old and in need of replacement. The Community Services Commission has
identified the upgrade of this playground as next in line on their seven-year CIP priority
list. In addition to the new equipment, this project will also include new playground
surfacing and an entry ramp as required for ADA compliance.
In addition, there is small playground at the Roanoke Avenue entrance to the park that
has a metal slide that is not compliant with playground safety standards as well as non-
ADA compliant play surfacing. To bring this area into compliance with these standards

has been included in the bid specification package.
