WILSON, DIRECTOR, PARKS & RECREATION SERVICES SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR THE CENTENNIAL PARK INTERMEDIATE PLAYGROUND REPLACEMENT (CIP NO. 20065) SUMMARY: The bid opening for the Centennial Park intermediate playground replacement project was held on March 9, 2011. The Centennial Park playground replacement was identified as a priority by the Community Services Commission. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council award the contract to Fleming Environmental of Fullerton, California in the amount of $72,325.00 subject to the approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and final execution. FISCAL IMPACT: The replacement of the playground at Centennial Park is funded with Park Development funds as part of the 2010/2011 Capital Improvement Program. The total for this project, including the cost of equipment and installation was budgeted for $76,000. BACKGROUND: The scope of work includes the replacement of the playground at Centennial Park (14722 Devonshire Avenue). The work to be completed consists of demolition and removal of existing play equipment and sand, and installation of new playground equipment, engineered wood fiber surfacing, and an ADA concrete pathway and entry ramp. As per project specifications, the playground equipment being installed at both parks is from Miracle Recreation Equipment Company. SUMMARY: Sealed bids were opened on March 9, 2011. The thirteen (13) bids were as follows: Contractor Base Bid Fleming Environmental, Inc. $ 72,325.00 Micon Construction, Inc. $ 72,930.81 T&K Construction $ 73,715.00 Moalej Builders $ 74,000.00 Ortco, Inc. $ 75,022.00 Creative Contractors $ 76,821.98 TED Enterprises $ 83,110.00 ATOM Inc. $ 84,550.00 Interlog Corporation $ 84,850.00 Malibu Pacific Tennis Courts, Inc. $ 85,000.00 Signature Contractors $ 88,875.00 Allied Sprinkler Co., Inc. $ 92,750.00 Unique Performance Const. Inc. $111,800.00 References check of the contractor, review of the bid documents, and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates and the City Attorney will review the contract.
