SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR THE MCFADDEN PASADENA PARKETTE
IMPROVEMENTS (CIP NO. 20069)
SUMMARY:
The bid opening for the McFadden Pasadena Parkette Improvements (CIP No. 20069)
was held on September 16, 2011. The concept for this project originated out of the
City's Neighborhood Improvement Task Force (NITF) as a way to make this facility
more safe and attractive for neighborhood residents and to provide a play element that
will give the children an opportunity to be outside and active.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council award the contract to Fleming Environmental of
Fullerton, California in the amount of $80,478.00 subject to the approval of contract
requirements by the City Attorney and final execution.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The McFadden Pasadena Parkette Improvements project is funded with Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds as part of the 2011/2012 Capital Improvement
Program.
BACKGROUND:
The scope of work includes two new playground elements and new steel fencing at the
McFadden Pasadena Parkette. The work to be completed consists of the removal of
approximately 1,200 square feet of existing turf and soil, and installation of new
playground equipment, engineered wood fiber surfacing, curbing and an ADA concrete
entry ramp. In addition, the existing 250' length of chain link fencing that runs along the
McFadden Avenue side of the parkette will be upgraded with new tubular steel fencing.
As per project specifications, the playground equipment being installed is from Kompan
Playground Equipment and the fencing is an Ameristar Fencing product.
SUMMARY:
Bids were opened on September 16, 2011. The eight (8) bids were as follows:

References check of the contractor, review of the bid documents, and a determination
that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The
Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates
and the City Attorney will review the contract. Construction is scheduled to begin in
October and the project should be completed by end of November.
