HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR INSTALLATION OF AN AUTOMATIC DOOR MECHANISM FOR THE CITY HALL MAIN ENTRANCE (CIP NO. 1032) SUMMARY One bid for this project has been received and a construction contract is ready to be awarded to Don La Force Associates, Inc. This project provides for the installation of an automatic door mechanism for the City Hall main entrance. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council award the construction contract for the installation of an automatic door mechanism for the City Hall main entrance (CIP No. 1032) to Don La Force Associates, Inc., the Iow and only bidder, in the amount of $5,850.00, and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City. FISCAL IMPACT The FY 2001/2002 Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget for major building facilities (ClP No. 1032) provided adequate funds for this project. Those funds have been carried over into FY 2002~2003 proposed budget for the completion of this project. DISCUSSION Installation of an automatic door mechanism at the main entrance to City Hall is needed in order to enhance the City of Tustin's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. One of the main entrance doors will be modified to provide a push button to activate the opening of the doors automatically. The one and only bid was received and opened on July 8, 2002 as follows: Don La Force Associates, Inc., Rancho Dominguez, CA ............... $5,850.00 Don La Force Associates, Inc.'s bid is 41% below the engineer's estimate of $10,000. The references and the State Contractor's License for Don La Force Associates, Inc. have been checked and are appropriate for the subject project. Tim D.
