HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PARKS AND RECREATION SERVICES AWARD OF BID FOR TUSTIN AREA SENIOR CENTER TENANT IMPROVEMENTS & COURTYARD LANDSCAPING (NO. 2051) SUMMARY: The bid opening for Tustin Area Senior Center Tenant Improvements and Courtyard Landscaping was held on June 27, 2002. City Council is requested to award the bid to Lehman Construction in the total amount of $204,100; $188,900 for the base bid plus $15,200 for the bid alternate to paint the building exterior. RECOMMENDATION: Award the contract for Tustin Area Senior. Center Tenant Improvements to Lehman Construction in the amount of $204,100 subject to approval of contract requirements by the City Attorney and final execution. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for construction of Tustin Area Senior Center Tenant Improvements & Courtyard Landscaping was included in a $300,000 allocation from the 2001/2002 Capital Improvement Program (Project No. 2051 - Senior Center Expansion). Painting the exterior of the Senior Center was included as a bid alternate. BACKGROUND: The scope of work includes the conversion of the existing roofed patio to a multi- purpose room, landscaping the courtyard area and painting the exterior of the Senior Center. In addition, a decorative arbor and fountain will be constructed to take advantage of the recent addition of windows to the lounge. At City Council Meeting on April 15, 2002 Plans & Specifications and Authorization to Advertise for Bids for were approved. SUMMARY: Sealed bids were opened on June 27, 2002; six bids were received. The three lowest bids were as follows: Contractor Lehman Construction Construct One Corp. Big Ben Construction Base Bid Painting Total $188,900 $15,200 $204,100 $211,269 $11,191 $222,460 $219,000 $25,500 $244,500 References check of the contractor, review of the bid documents and a determination that the contractor possesses a valid contractor's license have been completed. The Risk Manager will complete a review of the required bonds and insurance certificates. Construction should begin immediately following the conclusion of the Broadway in the Park program held at Peppertree Park.
