STACK, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOt_UTION 11-86 TO APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZE ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS TO REPLACE POLICE DEPARTMENT HVAC UNITS (CIP 10032) SUMMARY The plans and specifications to Replace HVAC Units at Police Department (CIP 10032) have been prepared and the project is ready to be bid. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended the City Council: 1. Adopt Resolution No. 11-86 approving plans and specifications for the replacement of the Police Department HVAC Units (CIP 10032), and 2. Authorize the City Clerk to advertise to receive bids. FISCAL. IMPACT The engineer's estimate for the work to be performed is $210,000. Sufficient funds have been budgeted and appropriated in this Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Capital Improvement Program for this project. DISCUSSION Conditioned air at the Police Department is currently provided by three (3} rooftop units ranging in size to meet the needs of the various zones within the building. Field Services staff recommends the replacement of two (2} of the twenty year old units because they have reached the end of their expected service life and are experiencing frequent failures. This project, as specified, will correct service deficiencies, reduce energy consumption, and lower maintenance costs. The plans and specifications have been completed and this project is now ready to advertise for bid. Director of Public Works/City Engineer ,, Attachment: Resolution 11-86 S:\City Council Items12011 Council ItemsWpproval of P&S - PD HVAC.docx RESOLUTION NO. 11-86 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS TO REPLACE HVAC UNITS AT POLICE DEPARTMENT (CIP 10032) WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Tustin, California to contract to Replace HVAC Units at Police Department (CIP 10032); and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has presented plans and specifications for the construction of said work; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and specifications presented by the City Engineer are hereby approved as the plans and specifications for: Replace HVAC Units at Police Department (CIP 10032) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to advertise as required by law far the receipt of sealed bids or proposals for the performance of the work specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications; PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Tustin held on the 6th day of December 2011.
