SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO
ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR PARK PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION AT COLUMBUS TUSTIN PARK (CIP
No. 20067)
SUMMARY:
This project includes the purchase and installation of playground equipment and ADA
required playground surfacing and a ramp.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution No. 12-13, approving
specifications for the purchase and installation of new playground equipment at
Columbus Tustin Park (CIP No. 20067), and authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for
bids.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Renovation of playground equipment at Columbus Tustin Park is included in the Capital
Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2011-2012. Adequate funds are available in the
Park Development Fund 131 for the purchase and installation of new playground
equipment at Columbus Tustin Park. Total estimated cost for the project is $145,000.
BACKGROUND:
The playground equipment at Columbus Tustin Park (17522 Beneta Way) is over 20
years old and in need of replacement. The Community Services Commission has
identified the upgrade of this playground as next in line on their seven-year CIP priority
list. This project may also include a new section of rubber poured-in-place playground
surfacing and an entry ramp as required for ADA compliance.
In addition, the playground design for this project will make it "universally accessible" to
all children regardless of ability. Staff has consulted with the playground manufacturer
as well as representatives from the Blind Children's Learning Center to make sure the
design would meet the needs of a wide spectrum of children with limited abilities. This
will be Tustin's first playground of this kind.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNGIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN,
CALIFORNIA, APPROVING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS AND
AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR PARK
PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION AT
COLUMBUS TUSTIN PARK (CIP No. 20067)
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City of Tustin to purchase and install
playground equipment at Columbus Tustin Park, 17522 Beneta Way, and;
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Services Department has presented
plans and specifications far the construction of said works;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the plans and specifications
presented by the Parks and Recreation Services Department are hereby approved as
the plans and specifications for Purchase and Installation of Playground Equipment at
Columbus Tustin Park (CIP No. 20067);
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby authorized and
directed to advertise as required by law for the receipt of sealed bids or proposals for
the completion of work specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Tustin at a regular
meeting held on the 7th day of February 2012.
