A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF TUSTIN RECOMMENDING APPROVAL OF AMENDMENTS
TO THE SIGN ORDINANCE (ORDINANCE NO. 438) RELATIVE
TO REAL ESTATE SIGNS IN RESIDENTIAL DISTRICTS.
The Planning Commission of the City of Tustin hereby
resolves as follows:
That after public hearing duly called, noticed and
held, the Planning Commission recommends to the City
Council adoption of certain amendments and additions

to the Sign Ordinance, Ordinance No. 438, relative to
rea___~l estate signs in residential districts to read as
follows:

Article V, Section 8, Subparagraph a, Real Estate
Signs, is amended by the addition of the following:
(1) Real estate signs exceeding four (4) feet in
height and/or six (6) square' feet in area per'
side shall be permitted under the following
conditions:

(a) Signs shall have no more than six (6)
square feet per side of advertising surface

(b) Maximum height' above grade of any trim or
sign part shall be seven (7) feet.
(c) Minimum clearance above grade shall be
three (3) feet to any trim or sign part,~
other than its supporting post.
(d) Maximum area of a sign and its trim shall
not exceed 18 sq. ft. within a circumscribed
geometrical figure; i.e., circle, square
or rectangle.
(e)' The maximum measurable horizontal or ver- ·
tical width .of 'the advertising surface
shall not exceed five feet.
(f) Individual sign Prototype designs shall be
submitted to the Development Preview Com-
mission and approved prior to obtaining a
permit for any individual sign.

(g)
Permits shall be obtained for each sign
thereafter. Fees shall be paid for permits
in accordance with the following schedule:
For each model or prototype of a common
style or design -- $25.00
For each sign of a prototype group, after
initial approval of the prototype
design -- $2.00 '~'
For each individual sign, not a part of
an approved prototype group -- $10,00
(h). An identification mark shall be provided by
the Building Department to indicate that
each sign in any given.prototype group has
met design and structural requirements.
(i)
Signs conforming to any of the designs of the
attached exhibits are deemed to meet the re-
quirements of this section, and permits for
their use may be obtained from the Building
Department. Variations from these styles
and designs as shown on the attached exhibits
shall require the approval of the Development
Preview Commission and compliance.with the
requirements stipulated above.
(j)
Extraneous sign information such as "Sold"
"Contact Mr " etc shall not be

attached or located outside the permitted
six square feet advertising surface·
(k)
Real estate signs as defined by this amend-
ment shall be limited to one such sign per
subject property for lease or for sale, and
shall be located no closer than five .feet to,
nor protrude in or over any public right-of-
way line.
(1)
Real estate signs in this category shall be
removed from subject property within one
week of the signing of the sale or lease
contract by the new owners or lessees of
the property.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Planning
Commission on the 24th day of January 1972.
