SUBJECT: CRIME STATISTICS
Mr. John Adams is the spokesperson for the Tustin Voter Awareness
Committee which consists of representatives from the Tustin Police
Officers Association and the Tustin Municipal Employees Association.
Mr. Adams stated in last week's Tustin News and Tustin Weekly that
Tustin is sixth in "crime rates overall" in Orange County and that
Tustin "is being hit with a tidal wave of crime".
The facts are:
■ The official reporting of crime is done through the California
Crime Index published by the State of California and the
Federal Bureau of Investigation Crime Index.
■ Based upon the latest reports published by the above, Tustin
was fourteenth (14th) in both indexes which include homicide,
rape, robbery, assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny
and arson.
■ Based upon Tustin Police Department statistics, reported 1991
crime offenses in Tustin were down six (6) percent from 1990.
For the same period, total calls for service (emergency and
non -emergency) were up two (2) percent. For the same period,
Tustin's population increased 2.73 percent,
