OCFA FIREFIGHTER
MEMORIAL
July 5, 2002
Mr. William Huston
City Manager
City of Tustin
300 Centennial Way
Tustin, CA 92780
Dear City Manager Huston:
The campaign to raise funds for the OCFA Firefighter Memorial has been launched! As
members of the Fundraising Committee, we are excited about the sculpture that will be
created and installed at the gateway to our new Regional Fire Operations and Training
Center, and we will be seeking funds from both the public and private sectors to help us
realize our long-held dream of a permanent Memorial to honor firefighters in Orange
County.
Our fundraising goal is $850,000, which will cover the cost of creating and installing the
Memorial and of maintaining the sculpture and the site. To help us reach this goal, we
have retained Keena Communications of Mission Viejo. This firm is developing
marketing materials and has identified giving/recognition levels that will encourage
cities, agencies, residents and businesses to contribute.
We have received a $25,000 pledge from Supervisor Todd Spitzer on behalf of the
County of Orange and would like to raise $165,000 from the OCFA's member cities.
There is an exciting giving level that we are presenting first to our participating cities as
the recognition is significant. Adjacent to the Memorial, outside, will be a Donor Wall
recognizing the first fifty contributors of $7,5000 ore more under the heading "The
Firefighter Memorial First Fifty." We hope that each of the OCFA's member cities will
have its name on that wall.
Several cities have already pledged to the Memorial: San Clemente, Mission Viejo,
Placentia, Irvine and Laguna Hills.
We are encouraging those cities to raise their contributions to $7,500, and we are asking
cities that have not yet contributed to consider giving at this most-significant level.
Described below are several ways in which cities might fund their $7,500 contributions.
Because pledges are gratefully accepted, your city may divide its contribution
between two budget years by making a donation in 2002 and then pledging
the balance, to be paid by July 15, 2003.

Your city may make a municipal commitment of $2,500 or more and then obtain the
balance as a contribution from an individual or a business in their city. Your city
would be recognized on the First Fifty Wall, and the partner-contributor would be
recognized at is or her giving level.
Your city may present this giving opportunity to your employees and allow them to
make a pledge toward the municipal fundraising goal of $7,500. Donations from
employees would count toward the city's total of $7,500, and employees would
receive recognition for their individual contributions.
We are including a photograph of the Memorial, a list of giving levels for the campaign and a
city pledge form. If you have any questions, feel free to call any of us or Hugh Wood at the
Orange County Fire Authority (714/28%3715). We look forward to working with you to create
this lasting tribute to Orange County's firefighters.
Todd Spitzer
Orange County Supervisor
Sincerely,
Chris Lowe
