SUBJECT' AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND CURB AND
GUTTER REPAIR PROJECT, FY 1999-2000 (PROJECT NO. 402-6235)
SUMMARY
This project will provide for removal and replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter and drive
aprons at various locations throughout the City to correct tripping hazards. This project also
provides for the addition of new sidewalk and access ramps at certain locations in the city where
there, is no existing sidewalk, in order to comply with ADA requirements.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council award the Annual Sidewalk and Curb & Gutter Repair Project
FY 1999-2000 contract to Med Tox Incorporated in the amount of $158,129.76 and authorize the Mayor
and City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the' City.
FISCAL IMPACT
This project is sufficiently funded in the 1999-2000 FY Public Works Department Operating Budget
(Account No. 01-402-6235), and is part of the City's on-going Maintenance of Effort requirements for
compliance with Measure M.

Bids for the subject project were opened December 22, 1999. There were seven (7) bids received a'nd

This project will provide for the removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk, curb, and gutter and
drive aprons to correct tripping hazards at approximately 175 locations throughout the City. The other
major function of this project is to provide for the means of addressing improvements throughout the City
to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).These locations are typically requested

by citizens and/or are identified by City staff to provide curb access ramps as well-as completion of
missing segments of sidewalk to improve disabled/pedestrian access. ADA' related improvements
slated for this year's project includes five curb ramps at various locations, as well as construction of
concrete sidewalk along the westerly side of Myford Road between Michelle Drive and 1500' south of
Michelle Drive. Myford Road currently has only limited stretches of sidewalk, and construction of this
missing segment will complete the sidewalk between Michelle Drive and Walnut Avenue. This will
eliminate the need for pedestrians to traverse this zone on the side of the road adjacent to vehicular
travel lanes.
The Iow bid is 10.03% below the engineer's estimate of $175,754.50. The references and the'
Contractor's State License for Med Tox Incorporated have been checked and are appropriate for tl~e
subject project.
