HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION MEDIA ONE STATUS REPORT SUMMARY This item has been placed on the agenda at the request of Council Member Mike Doyle to discuss the Media One acquisition by AT & T and the effects of the transition to new service. RECOMMENDATION Pleasure of the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT None. BACKGROUND AT&T recently completed its acquisition of Media One, Inc and is in the process of replacing the Media One brand name with it's own, AT&T Broadband. In addition, AT & T Broadband is nearing the completion of the rebuild begun by Media One and plans to begin rolling out the new service in October. Media One/AT &T has been notifying local residents of these changes via direct mail. Questions have been raised by citizens regarding proposed changes in fees, programming and equipment requirements. Council Member Doyle has requested that this item be placed on the agenda to discuss these issues. In addition, Media One/AT&T is due to submit their franchise renewal proposal today. Staff and the City Attorney will review this proposal and report to the City Council by the end of this year or early next year.
