AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND CURB AND
GUTTER REPAIR PROJECT, FY 2000-2001 (PROJECT NO. 402-6235)
SUMMARY'
Bids have been received and reviewed for the subject project and the construction contract is
ready to be awarded. The award of the construction contract will provide for removal and
replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter and drive aprons at various locations throughout the
City to correct tripping hazards. This project also provides for the addition of new sidewalk at
certain locations in the City where there is no existing sidewalk, in order to comply with ADA
requirements.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council award the Annual Sidewalk and Curb & Gutter Repair Project
FY 2000-2001 contract to C.J. Construction in the amount of $135,475.35 and authorize the Mayor and
City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City.
FISCAL IMPACT
This project is sufficiently funded in the 2000-2001 FY Public Works Department Operating Budget
(Account No. 01-402-6235), and is part of the City's on-going Maintenance of Effort requirements for
compliance with Measure M.
BACKGROUND
Bids for the subject project were. opened November 29, 2000. There were four (4) bids received and the
results are as follows:

3. LGT Enterprises, Tustin ........................................................................................ $163,156.50

This project will Provide for the removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk, curb, and gutter and
drive aprons to correct tripping hazards at approximately 145 locations throughout the City. The other
major function of this project is to provide for the means of addressing improvements throughout the City
to comply with the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These locations are typically
requested by citizens and/or are identified by City staff to provide curb access ramps as well as
completion of missing segments of sidewalk to improve disabled/pedestrian access. ADA related
improvements slated for this year's project include construction of concrete sidewalk along the north side

of Warner Avenue from Red Hill Avenue to 1800' west of Red Hill Avenue, at 15600 Williams Street and
along the west side of Pacific Street from Third Street to 200' north of Third Street.
Construction of these missing segments of sidewalk will eliminate the need for pedestrians to traverse
these zones on the side of the road, adjacent to vehicular travel lanes.
The Iow bid is 1.55% below the engineer's estimate of $137,612.04. The references and the
Contractor's State License for C.J. Construction have been checked and are appropriate for the subject
project.
