EXTENSION OF LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR ROMAN LOPEZ
SUMMARY: Authorize an extension on Roman Lopez's medical leave of absence
for an additional six months.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council authorize extending Roman Lopez's medical leave of absence for
an additional six months.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Roman Lopez is currently on a medical leave of absence without pay and very limited
benefits. His job is currently being performed by a temporary employee and therefore
the fiscal impact is negligible.
BACKGROUND:
Roman Lopez is the custodian at the Senior Center. He has been with the City since
1995. Mr. Lopez has been on a medical leave of absence which expired on September
1, 1999. Mr. Lopez's doctor is unable to release him back to work at this time and will
re-evaluate him at the end of the Year. Granting Mr. Lopez an extension to March 1,
2000 will allow him additional time to recuperate. The custodian position will be filled on
a regular basis and if released to full duty by his doctor, Mr. Lopez will be returned to
his position if an opening exists.
