In 1945, the Red Shirt Friday program originated during WWII to show support of the
military as they defended our country. This has not been an organized event until
recently. Currently there are six cities in Orange County who have proclaimed to
support Red Shirt Friday. The participating cities are as follows: Yorba Linda, Santa
Ana, Brea, La Habra, Westminster and Orange.
RESOLUTION NO. 13-53
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA DECLARING EVERY FRIDAY IN THE CITY
OF TUSTIN TO BE "RED SHIRT FRIDAY"
Whereas, Red Shirt Friday is a nationwide initiative that visibly demonstrates support
for the men and women in uniform; and
Whereas, by wearing red every Friday, the City of Tustin is announcing that we are
grateful to our soldiers past, present, and future for their bravery and sacrifice; and
Whereas, many are dying defending this great country we love and call home, and
without them we would not have the liberty of living in a free country; and
Whereas, Red Shirt Friday is not just to give thanks to the millions that serve our
country, but to show appreciation for their acts of selflessness and that they will never
be forgotten; and
Whereas, the City of Tustin encourages residents of our patriotic community to join
us in wearing red on Fridays to honor veterans, active duty armed forces personnel, and
troops that continue to sacrifice for our benefit.
Now, Therefore, the City Council proclaims each Friday in the City of Tustin to be
"Red Shirt Friday," and urge residents, visitors, and employees to show support to
servicemen and women by wearing red on Fridays.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of
