WATER MAIN
SUMMARY
This action is a request for authorization to award a construction contract for construction of water main
replacements in Newport, Prospect and 175' Street.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Tustin City Council award the contract for the subject projects to Steve Casada
Construction Company, Inc. of Anaheim, Califomia, in the amount of $729,005 and authorize the Mayor
and City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City..
FISCAL IMPACT
The amount of this contract is $729,005. There is currently $1,035,670 remaining in the 1999/2000 Water
Service Capital Improvement Program Budget allocated for completion of these projects.
BACKGROUND
Bids were opened on August 18, 1999 for subject project and three bids were received as follows:
1. Steve Casada Construction Company, Inc ................................. $ 729,005.00
2. Bebek Company .......................................................................... $1,048,249.00
3. JohnT. Malloy, Inc ..................................................................... $1,342,026.00
The low bid by Steve Casada Construction Co., Inc. is 26.8% under the engineer' s estimate of $996,000.
The Contractor's references have been verified and past job performance has been satisfactory.
DISCUSSION
This project encompasses replacement of deteriorating and undersized steel water mains on Prospect
Avenue from Santa Clara Avenue to 17th Street; on 17th Street from Windsor Place to Newport Avenue; and
on Newport Avenue from Kenyon Avenue to Edinger Avenue.
