RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council receive and file this report.
BACKGROUND
At the May 3, 1999 City Council meeting, Councilman Potts requested a status update on the
Peters Canyon Hiking and Riding Trail.
The last status report provided to the City Council was on July 20, 1998. Since that time certain
improvements have been constructed and plans have been prepared. The following is the current
status of new improvements by trail linkages:
Irvine Regional Park through the City of Tustin
On January 15, 1999 a new one-mile section of Peters Canyon Regional trail was opened. The
new trail borders Jamboree Road and crosses Santiago Canyon Road linking Irvine and Peters
Canyon Regional Parks. The trail is fenced along Jamboree Road for public and horse safety.
Rough grading and landscape irrigation work has started on the trail under Jamboree Road that
links the trail in Tustin on the west to the trail in Irvine on the east. The City of Tustin is responsible
for the installation and maintenance of irrigation and landscaping surrounding the trail and the trail
is being constructed by the County.
East of Jamboree Road undercrossing (City of Irvine)
A trail alignment has been established to link the Jamboree Road undercrossing trail with Valencia
Park in the City of'lrvine. The trail would then extend south to the Irvine Family Homestead
Garden and Ranch Headquarters buildings at the Irvine Company Agricultural Headquarters,
circle around the north side of the headquarters, then south toward Irvine Blvd. Although the
alignment has been established, no plans have been prepared and the County has obtained no
formal dedication of right-of-way. The County however, does have a verbal commitment from the
Irvine Company. As of the date of this report no future construction dates have been determined.

Conveyance is anticipated in Spring 2000. The trail construction, as part of the Regional Trail
network, will be the County's responsibility.
