HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/FIELD SERVICES DIVISION AWARD OF BID FOR THREE POLICE SPECIAL SERVICE UNITS RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council award the bid for three 1998 Police Special Service Units to Wondries Fleet Group of Alhambra, CA in the amount of $86,821.71. FISCAL IMPACT: Staff has determined, based upon the bids received that the lowest bidder responding to the City request for bids is Wondries Fleet Group. Staff had contacted a number of dealers in the area and received the following prices for like equipped vehicle. The dealer and quotes are as follows: Wondries Fleet Group, Alhambra Sopp Chevrolet, Huntington Park D.J. Martin, Newport Beach Crest Chevrolet, San Bemardino Guarantee Chevrolet, Santa Ana Selman Chevrolet, Orange Tustin Chevrolet, Tustin Mclean Cadillac/GMC $86,821.71 $89,732.16 $97,967.37 $100,462.86 No Response No Response No Response No Response The funding for these vehicles was appropriated in the 1997/98 Budget from the Vehicle Replacement Fund. DISCUSSION: The Police Department uses "police packaged" vehicles for the two K-9 units, and for the field supervisor. A larger vehicle with a higher weight limit is needed for these uses due to the need for additional weight and room. The Field Supervisor carries a variety of investigative tools, material, along with weaponry that creates a strain on the weight capacity of the sedan. The K-9 Units presently transport the dogs in a sedan and often confine the dogs in the rear seat for up to 14 hours. The Chevrolet Motor Company no longer manufacturers police packaged sedans and have switched their police packages to the Chevrolet Tahoe Sports Utility Unit. This vehicle addresses the weight and room issues that have been a concern with sedan vehicles as mentioned above. The vehicles proposed for purchase are to replace three existing sedans in service since mid-1993. The vehicles have accumulated sufficient mileage and wear to warrant their replacement. Replacement monies in the Vehicle Lease Funds will be utilized for the replacement cost as outlined in the 1997/98 Budget. Tim D.
