RESOLUTION NO. 98-36 AUTHORIZING THE STATE TO PURCHASE A
PICKUP TRUCK ON BEHALF OF THE CITY
SUMMARY
ApprOval of Resolution no. 98-36 authorizing the General Services Department of the State of California to
purch~¢ a Ford pickup truck on behalf of the City.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve Resolution No. 98-36 authorizing the General Services
Department of the State of California to purchase a current model year Ford pickup truck on behalf of the
City.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Community Development Department recently received $15,000.00 in funding from the Orange
County Transportation Authority throu~h the Service Authority Abandoned Vehicle Program for a vehicle
to support the City's Code Enforcement Abandoned Vehicle Program.
DISCUSSION
The funding will allow the City to purchase a pick-up truck for use bY the code enforcement officers in
support of the Abandoned Vehicle Program. The Community Development Department has determined
that a pick-up mack will more closely fit the needs of the code enforcement officers because of its capacity
to carry materials and debris.
Since the state buys in such large volume, they are able to receive a more competitive price for vehicles that
the City can receive purchasing only one truck, Staff looked at the published prices contained in the
sample bids obtained from local vendors and compared them to the prices contained in the state contract.
Staff also contacted a number of dealers in the area and received the following prices for a like-equipped
vehicle. As a result the most cost effective option for the City is to purchaSe of new Ford pickup through
the General Services Department of the State of California at a total cost of $13,719.24.
Tustin Chewolet, Tusrin ............................................................................. $16,632.63
McLean GMC/Cadillac, Tustin .................................................................. $17,183.24
The attached resolution allows the City to Utilize the State's purchasing program to obtain a current model
pickup truck at a substantially lower cost that the City could obtain on its own. It also designates the City
Manager as the public official to execute this request on behalf of the City.
