BACKGROUND: Attached is a memo from Bob Kiley, Executive Director, reporting on the Foundation's current activities. March 5, 1998 TUSTIN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TO: Mayor Thomas & City Councilmembers FROM: Bob Kiley, Executive Director RE: Tustin Community Foundation Activities MEMORANDUM Mayor Thomas & City Councilmembers: In an attempt to keep the Council better informed of the activities, programs and projects of the Tustin Community Foundation I offer the following brief overview of the activities and achievements of the Tustin Community Foundation. New Officers At our January meeting new officers were elected and they are as follows: Chuck Puckett- President Scot Proud- Vice President Mellie Deano- Treasurer Fundraising The Board approved a direct mail program" Friends of the Foundation". This program is designed to provide more exposure for the Foundation and its activities and goals. Mailings will go our quarterly and will be directed toward small businesses in Tustin. The letter will ask them to support the Foundation and donate a minimum of $50.00. The mailings will be expanded each quarter to include individuals both in the City of Tustin and North. Tustin. The Board approved three eVents for this' year: 1.) A Golf Tournament 2.) International Speakers Series- a breakfast Or lunch event 3.) Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Contributions The Tustin CommunitY Foundation received a $500 donation from the Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon. Also it received a $1,000 donation from the Merrill Lynch Company. PacBell has agreed to underwrite the Concerts in Post Office Box 362 · Tustin, California 92781 · 714/573-3331 the Park" again this year at a cost of $5,500. The TCF has received $5,000 from Waste Management of Orange County. Donations to Organizations The Board of Directors approved donating $1,500 to Laurel House and $1,500 to Sheepfold. These donations were a result of monies raised from the Mayor's Prayer Bre_~kt'ast. In an effort to identify projects and activities that fall within the mission statement of Foundation, the Board of Directors have been inviting representatives from organizations in Tustin to brief the Board on their goals for 1998-99. At our February meeting the Board heard from the following: Tustin Library Christine Shingleton briefed the Board on the status of the library renovation and possible expansion. Tustin Arts Council l,inda Jennings,member Of the Tustin Arts Council, discussed the plans of the organization. Their goals for 1998-99 are as follows: 1) $35,000 for a feasibility study concerning a 6-700 seat theater 2) Arts Scholarships ranging from $150 to $300 each This is the end of this report
