Nault, Finance Director DECLARATION OF SURPLUS EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATION: le Declare the attached list of computer equipment as surplUs and not required for public use. · Authorize staff to give the surplus computer equipment to the Tustin Community Foundation for reconditioning and distribution to non-profit organizations. FISCAL IMPACT: None. DISCUSSION: The attached letter from the Tustin Community Foundation describes their intent to solicit services' to recondition our used computer equipment and redistribute it Where it is most needed. .The letter mentions the Tustin Family and Youth Center and Tustin's main library as examples. This seems to be in keeping with the City Council's desire to redistribute any surplus computer equipment that may be of value to other public agencies. Ronald A. Feb February 11, 1998 TUSTIN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION TO: 'Mayor Jeff Thomas and City Councilmembers FROM: Bob ~Kiley, Executive Director ' RE: Request for Surplus Computer Workstations MEMORANDUM' Mayor Thomas and City Counc~!mem, bers! As the Executive Director of the T. ustin Community Foundation, a non-profit, charitable foundation for the good of all'the citizens of Tustin, it is. my charge to continually look for projects where we, the Foundation, can provide'opportunities to better the lives of those who live in Tustin. It has come to our attention that the City is about to upgrade their computer operation throughout city hall. We would like to propose an alternative to putting the old ones out to bid. What we propose is that you donate them to the Tustin Community Foundation and that we, through our many-spurces, have them recon'ditioned, free of charge or minimal expense, and place them where they are most needed. . One area where 'we feel there is a need is the Community Senior Center. Currently the Seniors are signe'd up for computer classes, for a fee, and we are allowing them to hold these classes in the Tustin Family & Youth Center. because the computer lab wa~ designed With kids in mind, the room is small and the space is limiting. If we were able' to refUrbish several of the City's used computers we could provide a computer lab in the Community Senior Center and make classes available to more 'Seniors. Another area we would like to 'explore is the possibility of installing several of the refurbished computers in Tustin's Main Library. i have approached.several computer companies in the area to consider our needs and I am certain one of them, if not more, will fill our request. I have a commitment . from one corporation'who will donated some warehouse space to store them until they are placed. . The last point, but the most important one, is that by ~llowing'the Foundation to be involved in this process, The Foundation will get valuable press and recognition for the continued workthey are doing throughOut the City for all of its citizens. I hope you consider our request for waiving the usual bid process and donating the computers directly to the Tustin Community Foundation for the above reasons. cc: Bill Huston, City Manager TCF Board members Post Office Box 362 · Tustin, California 92781 · 714/573-3331 DATE: TO: FEBRUARY !0, 1998 SOFIA PETERSON FROM: KAREN BOWEN RE: SURPLUS COMPUTER EQUIPMENT MAKE MODEL SERIAL NO.
