HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR MITCHELL AVENUE WIDENING BETWEEN "B" SIREEI AND NEWPORI AVENUE- COMMUNIIY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANI (CDBG) FUNDENG 1997-98 F.Y. (PROJECT NO. 200032) Mitchell Avenue between "B" Street and Nex~.~port Avenue. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the Tustin CiW Council, at their meeting of Janua~ 19, 1998, award the subject contract to Crossroads Engineering, Inc., Whittier, CA, in the amount of $59,994.00 and authorize the Mayor and Cib' Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the Ciw. FISCAL E~IPACT The CiW's 1997-98 F.Y. Capital Improvement Pro~arn/Budget provides sufficient funds for the construction phase utilizing Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) monies. Cmtstruction Inc., Pomona ...................................................... $78,978.50 This project will provide for street widening along the north side of Mitchell Avenue between "B" Street and NeWpOrt Avenue. This construction will consist of new curb and gutter, sidewalk, drive aprons, street pavement and street li~ts. During the bidding process, the Orange County Sanitation District No. 7 notified the Cit3.' that they will be replacing the san/mo' sewer in Mitchell Avenue x~4thin the limits of the City's street widening project. Construction of the Sanitation District sewer will 'take place in the sprin~early smmner of this year. Once the Sanitation District has completed their sewer construction the City will overlay Mitchell Avenue between Newport Avenue and "B" Street as part of the Annual Major Maintenance Program. Award of Contract for Mitchell Avenue Widening Between "B" Street and Newport Avenue Januarv 19, 1998 Page ~' On February 3rd and June 2,'a 1997 the Ci.ty Council approved the three (3) purchase agreements lbr part- takes of the private property' which was needed to construct the street improvements. As of September 26, 1997, all three properties had been successfully acquired, thus providing the additional public right-of-way necessary' for construction of the proposed improvements. The references and the State Contractor's license of Crossroads Engineering, Inc. have been checked and ver/fied and are appropriate for the subject project.
